On the 5th and 6th February 2026, Team AWeSoMe attended the ETMAAL 2026 conference, hosted by the university of Wageningen. Etmaal is the annual meeting where communication researchers from Dutch and Flemish universities come together to share their latest research, exchange ideas, and reflect on methodological and theoretical developments in the field. Across two inspiring days, the conference offered a rich program of presentations, panels, and discussions.
Below, we highlight Team AWeSoMe’s contributions to the conference.
Day 1
- Rebecca Godard presented their, Ine Beyens and Amber van der Wal's study on within-person mediators of social media effects as part of the session on adolescents' social media usage and well-being.
Day 2
- Ine Beyens took part in an expert panel, organized by the NeFCA Media Psychology division, discussing how smartphone use can best be measured in today's complex digital landscape. Ine presented an idiographic, n = 1 perspective, showing how the effects of social media use differ from person to person and how subjective measures can be meaningfully compared with digital trace data.
- Konrad Mikalauskas and Inga Vondenhof presented the findings of the study "What's on their For You page? A large-scale computational approach to adolescents’ TikTok archives through hashtag topic modeling" as part of the session on everyday media use and effects.
